Bratislava Castle

Bratislava is situated in the south-west of Slovakia. Until 1919 the city carried the name Prešporok (Pressburg). Populated by 469 thousand inhabitants, Bratislava is the largest city and the capital of Slovakia. The historical monuments are concentrated mainly in the old town. Former Bratislava City Hall now houses Mestske Muzeum, the municipal museum. Michael's Gate is one of the oldest buildings in the city. The historic centre includes several baroque palaces, including the Grassalkovich Palace and Primate's Palace. Among the religious buildings, the most visited are the Gothic Cathedral St. Martin and the Church of St. Elizabeth, also known as the blue church. Bratislava also has two castles: Bratislava Castle overlooking the city and the Danube and Castle Devin.
